Telenor Expanding 4G in India, Now in 13 Cities

Telenor India is expanding its 4G/LTE services in its operational circles very fast. In February this year Telenor had said that they will roll out 4G services on their existing 4G-compatible 1800MHz band and they started the field trial with Huawei's LeanGSM technologies. In March Telenor has entered into 4G space by introducing 4G in Varanasi.

In 5 months Telenor has been rapidly increasing the 4G footprint. Right now in 6 circles Telenor 4G is live with coverage in 16 cities as of now.

Andra & Telengana - Vizag, Vigayawada, Eluru, Tenali, Bhimavaram, Warangal, Guntur, Rajahmundry
Bihar Jharkhand - Rachi, Dhanbad
Gujarat - Anand
Maharastra - Amravati
UP West - Agra, Dehradun
UP East - Varanasi, Lucknow

If you can remind that Telenor said that they will not participate in the next Auction (probably in September this year) due to overpriced spectrum sale. Telenor needs more spectrum to continue with 4G and for that they either buy or merge with other operators, or get spectrum for itself via auction route.

There is long time rumor about Telenor-Tata merger, but it is yet to happen. And there was another that saying Telenor may sell off its Indian business to Vodafone India. At this context expanding 4G from Telenor India is not the expected move. It seems Telenor with 4G capabilities can now stand the company in a better positioned and better valued before the merger or sell.
