Reliance Jio Would Offer Internet via 4G/LTE, WiFi and FTTx; Joins COAI

Jio would offer data in three ways - via 4G (LTE-TDD on 2300MHz & LTE-FDD on 1800MHz), WiFi and FTTx.

At this stage Jio will offer 4G mobile broadband using lte-tdd technology over 2.3Ghz band. This band can be good for high-density population areas like in metros, but in rural and semi-urban areas it can't provide proper coverage without enough no of towers. That's why launch of 4G services will be in metros and large cities at first phase.

1800Mhz band in 14 circles can be used later, and will be targeted to use with lte-fdd technology and for enterprise customers or in high demand zones or Jio directly use it for carrier aggregation for lte-advanced solution.

Wifi can be mainstream for Jio as Wifi services in cities selected locations, boosted by ofc & microwave backhaul can easily tap existing smartphone users. Cities' business zones, malls, large residential areas would be covered first.

FTTx can be offered in two ways - retail sale to end customers and wholesale bandwidth to resellers and smaller cable operators or ISPs.

Just today COAI, the GSM lobby announced that Reliance Jio joins them as a core member. All core members of COAI are GSM mobile operators - Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Aircel, Uninor and Videocon.

Reliance Jio and COAI went loggerheads in many issues earlier, but now Jio breaks the silence and shakes hands with COAI.

Earlier Jio signed a deal with Bharti Airtel, which is believed to be the arch rival of Jio. The deal explores the option of sharing existing and future telecom infrastructure between two companies. Before that Jio opted for using Bharti's i2i submarine cable network.

Further Jio plans for a submarine cable called Bay of Bengal Network, where it ropes in several international players including Vodafone.

It seems Reliance Jio joins hands with its competitors to make sure a healthy atmosphere for the growth of 4th Generation mobile technology.

Though many believe that COAI is the association which promotes the voice of A-Vo-Id group, there are other operators like Uninor, which follows Cheapest Tariff offering strategy. So if Reliance Jio plans for a predatory pricing, COAI can not stop it.
