It will help Reliance Industries owned Infotel Broadband(IB) to offer ultra low cost voice calls in India. As these video/voice calls will generate domestic internet traffic - there will not be that much of traffic load for IB. Bad time ahead for 2G and 3G players, as it is almost sure RIL will come up with predatory pricing (forget Sunil Mittal who thought 1p/sec from Tata Docomo was predatory pricing). And international calling will be cheaper than current operators' tariff.
To offer full mobile services IB can go with Skype or Skype-like own video chat app and What's App like free messaging - all will be over the high speed wireless broadband over 4G/LTE-TDD network of IB.
So 3G or 2G players' thousand cr of investments will go just in vain. Biggest losers will be Vodafone, Idea and BSNL. Airtel may counteract as it has 4G license in 8 circles including 3 metros. BSNL unless upgrade its wired broadband infra in coming days will hit too badly, recent tariffs from BSNL Broadband showed the same immaturity. BSNL is just under-utilizing their EVDO spectrum 800MHz with EVDO Rev A, their voice customers are few and they should move to EVDO Rev B to offer 14.7Mbps on the go.
Reliance may target multiplexes - in a better way than BigFlix/NetFlix. Movie on Demand services can be offered at Rs 200/month, which can be accessed over a mobile/tablet or any devices.
RIL already tied up with some cable operators, and I heard some rumors that with RIL LTE cable TV services may go wireless!
It is my own thought - RIL may tie up with several Coffee shops and similar shops and malls to offer WiFi services to the people visiting the shops. You can borrow the devices from there and access internet using your home 4G username and password (RIL IB 4G is Everywhere?)
So future is bright, right?
For a brighter future we can wait another few months for Infotel's launch in India.
