Aparajita Tumi - Review

Ever since I came to know about Aparajita Tumi (The Unvanquished) I get excited very much.

The reasons are pretty obvious - it is Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's 3rd film after Antaheen. I liked Antaheen - it was a very smart, yet very much Kolkata feel; the treatment with the characters were so good. Secondly Aparajita Tumi is based on a novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay – 'Dui Nari Hate Tarabari'.

Third reason is the cast of the film; Aparajita Tumi is starring by Prosenjit Chatterjee, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Indraneil Sengupta, Tanusree Shankar, Kalyan Ray and guest appearance by Soumitra Chatterjee. In recent time Prosenjit is doing justice to his acting abilities, and I am a fan of Chandan Roy Sanyal since Kaminay. And the music and intriguing trailer made me high on expections.

But expectations fall from the high. This is probably Aniruddha's most weak film among his three films. It is not up to the mark.

No doubt he is a genius to deal with the complicated relationships on the reel, as we have seen in his first two films. The characters in Aparajita Tumi may be left with some space of developments. You may find the mild similarity with Kabhi Alvida Na Kahena but Aparajita Tumi is much mature and better handled. At the end I feel there is some sparks are missing in the film.

Well the film is itself not so bad, every actor did their parts very well. Prosenjit as usual is great. Padmapriya as Kuhu is mis-identified by Mahi Gill by me; there are strong resemblance between them.

I am not going to tell the story of the film, it is already there on the official site of the film. Read the synopsis here.

For the music by Shantanu Moitra, and the cinematography by Ranjan Palit - specially the aerial shots and other shots are done with Hollywood type maturity. With the ease of beautifully shot the film turns into a poetry. A bit slow but the film gives the glimpse of NRI Bangalis including our Kolkata origins and Dhaka origins.
